Jagarikin illusions

I always have been attracted by optical illusions, and when I came across the great work of Jagarikin, I was mesmerized by his illusions. I was so mesmerized that I tried to reproduce them in an attempt to understand the underlying mechanics of his illusions.

Shapes appear to be rotating while they stay static

Many of his illusions are based on the induction of the motion of the shapes by the motion of the colors, or to be more precise, the motion of the contrast of the colors.

Illusion applied to a growing reaction diffusion pattern
A variation where a texture with the illusion is used as a height map for a plane

I posted 2 artworks in Shader Toy, if you are interested by the source code:

Special thanks to Fabrice Neyret, I grabbed his hue gradient to use it for these artworks.
